Vulnerable circumstances training
One-Day Vulnerability Management Course
A one-day, in-depth course built for service delivery and frontline teams. It is designed to support the duties you already work under. Including the Equality Act 2010, your sector's service standards, and your own safeguarding routes.
Practical. Plain-spoken. Built around real situations from your own work.
What this training equips your team to do
Service delivery is where vulnerability shows up most. People often reach your team at a difficult point — when they are unwell, struggling with money, grieving, or facing a sudden change — and the service around them was not designed for that moment.
This is common in situations involving bereavement, financial difficulty, disability, or people in crisis.
A team that can recognise these moments and respond well is the team that keeps service users safe, and keeps your service fair and reliable.
Your duties already expect this. And the people you serve probably need that support today.

Advising the people who set the standards
Matt Radford (Director of Vulnerability Managers) is Deputy Chair of the CIOF Professional Conduct Committee, a member of the DMA Governance Committee, the lead on vulnerability for the DMA AI Council, and a member of the AFP IDEA Committee.
The frameworks in this course have been delivered to the Fundraising Regulator, the Chartered Institute of Fundraising, the Public Fundraising Regulatory Association of New Zealand, and the Data and Marketing Association.
In total, Vulnerability Managers has advised six major regulators and professional bodies on professional ethics, marketing, and vulnerability management — shaping the standards that organisations are now measured against.

One-day agenda
A six-and-a-half-hour day, delivered as five sessions with breaks. The timing fits around your team's working patterns and cover. The day can begin later, end earlier, or run as two half-days.
The outline below is the one most teams ask us to manage.
Session 1, Foundations.
What "people in vulnerable circumstances" really means, and the four main types of vulnerability.
The social model and why vulnerability sits in the circumstance and system, not the person.
Session 2 — The 'Before, During, After' model
Before, during and after. What to set up, what to do in the moment and recording, signposting, and supporting your wellbeing.
Session 3 — Codes and regulators
The Equality Act 2010 and the duty to make reasonable adjustments.
Your sector's service standards, and your safeguarding referral routes.
Session 4 — Live case workshop
Real examples from your team, worked through with our trainer.
The goal is not theory. It is to leave with a clear approach to the situations your team handles in practice.
Session 5 — Embedding what you have learned
Escalation routes that match how your service actually runs.
Where the work goes next — supervision, peer review, and signposting for service users who need more than your team can provide.
Optional - Recommended
Lived experience co-delivery
The single most consistent piece of feedback on our training is the impact of hearing directly from people with lived experience of vulnerability.
A trainer can set out a situation. A lived experience specialist can describe what it actually felt like to be the person on the other side of the desk or the phone. That changes how a team sees its own work. Lived experience specialists are paid, integrated, and treated as colleagues — not as case studies.
Lived experience co-delivery is available for this course, depending on the scope and length of the specialist's involvement.
We match the specialist from Vulnerability Managers' partner network to your team's work — for example, a specialist with relevant lived experience where your team supports people in housing or health-related difficulty. We agree this during scoping.
